Fire Safety at Home: Candle Use & Prevention Tips

At Cadman Group, your safety is one of our main priorities. With candles being a common cause of household fires, we encourage all residents to follow these simple precautions:

Candle Safety:

  • Never leave candles unattended and extinguish them when leaving a room

  • Keep away from anything flammable

  • Use sturdy, non-flammable surfaces

  • Trim wicks to ¼ inch

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets

  • Consider flameless candles as a safer alternative

Fire Safety Tips:

  • NEVER remove or disable any smoke detectors/carbon monoxide detector in your home

  • Test your smoke detector/carbon monoxide detector monthly, and if it’s not working properly, immediately create a work order via your tenant portal in AppFolio

  • Don’t overload outlets or power strips

  • NEVER use space heaters

  • NEVER leave a stove or any cooking appliances unattended while cooking, even if to run a quick errand!

  • Make it a habit to always check that your stove burners are turned to OFF

  • Purchase a fire extinguisher, know where it’s stored, and how to use it

Renters Insurance:

Accidents can happen despite precautions taken. Renters insurance helps protect your belongings in the event of fire, smoke, or water damage. It also covers your liability if you caused the damage. If you don’t already have coverage, we highly recommend securing a renter’s insurance policy. You may also visit your tenant portal in AppFolio to sign up for FolioGuard, or contact us directly.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe! For any questions or safety concerns, please contact our office. Thank you.
