Tenant Spotlight: Natural Simplicity

Natural Simplicity in El Segundo is known for their beautiful, unique and inspired designs that compliment nature and bring smiles to all who see them. Launched over a decade ago on Main Street in El Segundo, Natural Simplicity relocated to one of our spaces at 345 Richmond Street a few months ago. We checked in with them with 6 questions about their journey to success. Here’s what they had to say…

How and when did you get started with your business and what inspired you?

Mario was inspired by his grandmother and started as a little kid making floral arrangements with her from her garden back in Mexico.  Mario and I have been friends since 1987.  When the market crashed in
2008, I lost my job as a loan processor and figured I needed to do something else, so we decided to open a flower shop.  We subleased from Bipro Computers and did not get to put our sign up till after we’d been in business for one year.  The owner of Bipro was not sure if we were going to make it or not, so he did not want to spend money to move his sign.  We opened the flower shop on April 12th , 2008 almost 13 years ago.

How has your business been affected by the Covid19 pandemic?

We had to close for 6 weeks when the lockdown started.  We are currently not doing big events
(weddings & corporate events) and we are not doing arrangements for restaurants and offices on a weekly basis due to the pandemic.  Thankfully, we were able to reopen right before Mother’s Day 2020
and have been busy ever since.

What’s your favorite part about what you do?

We love being part of the community and being present in so many families lives with our flower
arrangements, whether it’s for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, births and even being able to provide
comfort on sad occasions when someone passes away.  We’ve made many friends in over 12 years in
business.  We enjoy sitting down to a meal and talking about the day or events from our day to day
business.

What’s one of the more exciting roles you have to play as a florist?

Probably weddings or big events – most weddings are set up in such a way that they only give you a short period of time to set up (usually 1 hour or less).  We usually have to wait for other vendors to do their set up before we can start ours and decorate, so most of the time, we have to hustle to get everything ready in time for the ceremony.

How is the new place working out and what do you love about it so far?

We had to move because our lease was coming to an end. We had already been talking about making a change and we were at the old address for 12 ½ years.  We believe in cycles and we were ready to start
our new cycle at a new location. We love the new place!  We are thrilled that the space is an open
floorplan and it’s modern.  Even though we are only one block away from the old location, there are lots of people that walk Richmond Street that do not walk Main Street. Therefore, we’ve had lots of new people come in to say hello and welcome us to the new location.  Also, there is plenty of parking in the front and the back.  We couldn’t be happier at 345 Richmond Street!
